The plenary events bookend the conference week with inspiration and celebration, starting with EAIE President Piet Van Hove setting the stage for discussions on the future of international education. Keynote speaker Élisabeth Moreno shares insights on education and empowerment. The Closing Plenary includes a performance by the EAIE Choir and welcomes the new President with a captivating musical journey by violinist Zhang Zhang.

Kick off the conference week on a high note at the Opening Plenary. EAIE President Piet Van Hove, from the University of Antwerp, will start us off with a warm welcome and a glimpse of what’s in store for the week as we think about and discuss the future of international education. Élisabeth Moreno, former Minister in charge of Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities in France, businesswoman and philanthropist, will bring her experience and inspiring personal story to the fore at this year’s Opening Plenary keynote, where she will talk about education as a catalyst for change and a tool for empowerment.Plenary

Piet Van Hove is President of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) and Director of the International Relations Office at the University of Antwerp, where he previously obtained a Master of Laws. He has been active in internationalisation since 1995 and today manages a team of 18 staff members, dealing with university-wide policy formulation and execution in the area of internationalisation, international cooperation and networking. This ranges from student and staff mobility to development cooperation, services for international staff and students, international educational projects and strategic networking.Élisabeth Moreno is a businesswoman and philanthropist who has served the French government as a Minister in charge of Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities from 2020 to 2022. Currently, she is the Chairwoman of Ring Capital where she empowers impact entrepreneurs and provides them with resources to grow and thrive. She is also President of Ring Africa, where she actively contributes to shaping the entrepreneurial landscape within the continent of Africa.
Her expertise has led her to hold key positions in enterprises across four continents and to become a consular judge, CEO for Lenovo in France and Vice President of Hewlett Packard, overseeing operations in Africa. In addition to these roles, Élisabeth is also passionate about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and through her organisation LEIA Partners, she supports leaders in developing their CSR strategies.
Beyond her professional endeavours, Élisabeth is deeply engaged in philanthropic activities, most notably as the President of the Femmes@Numerique Foundation, where she strives to drive progress and empowerment for women in the digital sphere.
Zhang Zhang, a classical violinist and humanitarian, has been a member of the L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo since 2000 and the founder of The Monaco String Quartet Ensemble since 2021. She also serves as Soloist of the Royal Opera of Versailles. Zhang is a prolific opinion leader, publishing in major French outlets such as Le Figaro and Libération and appearing on Europe 1, TVMonaco and France 5. In 2023, she published her autobiography "La voie de l’Archet" detailing her journey from a challenging childhood in Beijing to becoming an accomplished artist and advocate for peace and equality.
A graduate of Rice University and the Lausanne Conservatory, Zhang is also an inspiring philanthropist. Her organisation, ZHANGOMUSIQ, supports over 70 projects across 36 countries, including schools in Afghanistan, disaster relief in South America, and environmental initiatives in Europe. In 2021, she received the Prix Jean Pierre-Bloch for her contributions to peace and universalism.
