PDC role 

Through its training portfolio, the EAIE provides hands-on training activities addressing a variety of topics in the internationalisation of higher education. The role of the Professional Development Committee is to advance the EAIE’s mission and vision by ensuring the EAIE’s portfolio of training meets the needs of EAIE members through the delivery of timely, relevant and high-quality courses that reflect the full breadth of the field of internationalisation according to the EAIE's taxonomy. 

The Committee consists of the Chair and five EAIE members.  

PDC responsibilities  

Responsibilities include ensuring the portfolio covers a full range of relevant topics, monitoring quality, and encouraging innovative contributions from trainers and subject matter experts worldwide. The role involves collaborating closely with Thematic Committees to identify emerging trends, gathering input on training topics, and aligning the portfolio with EAIE's strategic objectives in partnership with the EAIE Office and other Functional Committees. 

Position in the Association 

The Professional Development Committee reports to the Board. Its members work closely with EAIE Office staff and groups within the Association responsible for content creation. 

Your professional experience and skills 

All potential PDC members should have the following:  

• Awareness of professional development needs and trends in their sector or region of higher education and in the field of internationalisation. 

The Committee is seeking experience in the following areas: 

• Designing and delivering training to a mature audience, with a heterogeneous background  

• Quality assurance of short (non-degree) training courses/professional development courses 

• Instructional design support 

• Observing a classroom (in-person or virtual) of adult learners and/or assess the effectiveness of training materials and group activities

• Practical experience with different training formats such as in-person, online synchronous and asynchronous and hybrid training formats (please specify the format/s you have most experience with)  

Preferred characteristics of a PDC member  

Strong analytical and decision-making skills 
Assessing contributions and advising on policies requires critical thinking and the capacity to assimilate information quickly, reach balanced conclusions and articulate recommendations. 

Commitment 
The role requires preparing for, attending and actively participating in all scheduled PDC meetings (an average of two in-person meetings per year in Amsterdam and two to four online meetings), as well as ad-hoc online meetings and e-mail exchanges. Individual members will also be given specific tasks between meetings and then be asked to report back. This includes liaising with two Thematic Committees assigned to each PDC member. In addition, PDC members have a shared responsibility for evaluating new EAIE Academy courses and the Train the Trainer programme (in person and/or online).  

Understanding of teamwork 
Many people contribute their efforts toward the realisation of the Association’s goals and objectives – no one does it alone. Well-developed interpersonal and intercultural communication skills are an essential element of effective teamwork within the EAIE. 

Sound judgment and integrity 
Assuring high-quality training activities requires the ability to subordinate special interests for the greater good of the Association, examine issues impartially and clearly communicate decisions made by the committee.

Criteria 

To be appointed as a member of the PDC, the individual must meet the following criteria: 

• Is currently an EAIE member 

• Does not currently serve in an elected or appointed position within the EAIE 

• Is currently not an active EAIE trainer unless stepping down from that role to join the Committee 

• A member may be re-appointed to the PDC for a second term of three years 

All EAIE members are welcome to apply, with candidates from Eastern and Southern Europe particularly encouraged to apply to promote a strong geographic diversity on the committee. The shortlist of candidates will be invited for an interview.
