Bologna with Student Eyes 2024

Published date: 25 May 2024

The Bologna with Student Eyes 2024 publication is the main deliverable of a research project funded by the European Commission under the KA 3 Programme. The research was conducted by the members of the European Students' Union (ESU) presidency, with support from ESU's elected representatives and project partners.

The project was undertaken to provide a comprehensive and critical analysis of the Bologna Process from a student perspective.

By leveraging insights from 37 national student unions across Europe, the Bologna with Student Eyes 2024 publication aims to highlight both the achievements and areas for improvement within the European Higher Education Area. The ultimate goal is to inform and inspire decision-makers on the future direction of the Bologna Process, ensuring it continues to evolve and meet the needs of students and society. This 2024 edition celebrates the 10th anniversary of the BWSE publication.

With our latest Bologna with Student Eyes report, ESU amplifies the student voice in shaping the EHEA and celebrates achievements while urging renewed focus on the transformative challenges that lie ahead.

Key findings from the research:

  • Historical insight and progress: Our decade-long commitment to the Bologna with Student Eyes series, initiated in 2003, provides a comprehensive understanding of the Bologna Process' history and evolution. This continuity allows professionals to appreciate the milestones achieved and the ongoing journey toward realising the European Higher Education Area.

  • Constructive critique and future focus: This edition of Bologna with Student Eyes highlights both the successes and areas that require improvement within the Bologna Process. By identifying what stakeholders have accomplished and where efforts should be intensified, we offer a balanced perspective that encourages continuous enhancement and adaptation of higher education policies.

  • Student perspectives and transformation: Featuring insights from 37 national unions of students across Europe, our publication emphasises the importance of student voices in shaping the future of higher education. This edition underscores the need to bring the EHEA to the forefront of significant transformations in Europe, ensuring that the evolving landscape of higher education remains responsive to student needs and aspirations.
