Workshop

In this workshop, participants will explore the role of language and diverse identities in fostering inclusive international education. Become aware and gain practical skills to address accentism, respect pronoun choices, and take informed steps towards more inclusive language use in general. Join us in creating a more equitable and supportive international education space.

This workshop will help you:

• Highlight diversity work as part of responsible internationalisation
• Understand the implications of language and accentism for an inclusive internationalisation
• Gain guidance regarding using inclusive pronouns for internationalisation
• Analyse terminology in DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) for inclusive language in educational settings
• Learn how accentism, pronouns, and inclusive language are linked with intersectional justice

This workshop is designed for any international education professional because issues of language and DEIB impact all in the field.

Stella Saliari

Feminist Researcher and Social Justice Consultant, Greece

Stella Saliari is a feminist researcher and social justice consultant. Throughout her work she applies feminist research practice and an anti-racist lens. She collaborates with both organizations in the Higher Education realm as well as the not-for-profit sector, presenting on topics such as Eurocentrism and knowledge production, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in international education, the politics of positionality. She further curates and moderates events ranging from topics such as Inclusion and Diversity in the Erasmus+ program to trainings on feminist knowledge production. All her work is guided by interventions at epistemological levels, by challenging normalized assumptions while her research practice is intersectional, reflexive and participatory. She stands for co-creation of knowledge, applying non-extractive methods, and entering into non-hierarchical relationships with the organizations and people she collaborates with.

Omolabake Fakunle is Chancellor’s Fellow / Senior Lecturer, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, and EDI (Decolonisation) Lead with the Curriculum Transformation Project at the University of Edinburgh. She is Affiliate Faculty, Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation (CHEI), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milano, and member of the inaugural Scottish Funding Council’s Tertiary Quality Framework Expert Advisory Group, and the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) Governance and Appointments Committee. Omolabake's award-winning research, teaching, and consultancy focus on inclusivity in internationalisation, employability, and decoloniality.
